Paducah, KY — A quick burst of wintry weather is impacting parts of Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri this morning, bringing light snow, brief heavier bursts, and the potential for short-lived travel issues. The National Weather Service in Paducah reports that areas near and north of the I-64 corridor—highlighted in the advisory zone—have the best chance of accumulating snow early today.

Light snow began before sunrise and is expected to continue through the morning hours before gradually tapering off or transitioning to rain as temperatures rise. While most totals will remain on the lighter side, locally heavier pockets of snow may produce 1 inch or more, particularly across the I-64 region, including Mount Vernon, Olney, and Fairfield.

Forecasters note that brief bursts of moderate snow may cause quick reductions in visibility and patchy slushy or slick roadways, especially on untreated surfaces. Any impacts are expected to be temporary, with widespread improvement by midday as temperatures climb and precipitation changes to all rain.

Farther south—including portions of Southeast Missouri and West Kentucky—light snow will also be possible early this morning, but accumulations should remain minimal. Even so, drivers should be alert for isolated slick spots until conditions warm later in the day.

A cold front will sweep through the region later this afternoon and evening, bringing colder air behind the rain but no significant wintry weather impacts.

Travelers are encouraged to allow extra time this morning, especially in the Illinois advisory region, and to stay updated with the latest forecasts as conditions improve through midday.
