Indiana starts the morning with a crisp, biting chill as a quiet sky stretches over frosted fields and dim streetlights. Pavement feels cold and rigid, hinting at the winter pattern building toward the region. This steady calm won’t last—meteorologists now watch a strengthening storm system set to move into central Indiana on Saturday, carrying notable travel concerns during a peak Post-Thanksgiving return period.

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for much of central and north-central Indiana from late tonight through Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service expects 3 to 6 inches of snow, mainly across areas north of I-70 including Lafayette, Kokomo, Anderson, Carmel, and portions of Indianapolis. Snow may develop early Saturday and expand quickly by midmorning as colder air presses in from the west.

Travel may deteriorate fast Saturday afternoon. Light flakes could mix with freezing drizzle in a few early pockets before temperatures fall back toward the upper 20s, increasing the risk of slick conditions. Plan extra time if you’re driving along I-65, I-69, or I-70. To be fair, some neighborhoods south of the city may see slightly less accumulation, but the broader region should still prepare for hazards.

Saturday night brings a steady rain-snow mix before colder air forces a transition back to snow. Winds may gust up to 25 mph, creating reduced visibility at times and slushy buildup on untreated roads. Snow diminishes Sunday afternoon as highs edge into the low 30s under mostly cloudy skies.

Looking ahead, colder air pushes in early next week. Models hint at additional light snow chances between December 2 and 6, a Winter Tease signaling a deeper seasonal shift for Indiana. Residents should stay ready for quick-changing conditions.
