SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Illinois Senate has unanimously passed a bill to recognize the Honor and Remember Flag as the official symbol of concern and commitment to honor and remember all members of the United States armed forces who have lost their lives while serving or as a result of service and their families.

The bill was sponsored by Deputy Minority Leader Sue Rezin (R-Morris) and will now be considered by the Illinois House of Representatives.

The flag was created after Cpl. George ‘Tony’ Lutz II was killed in action while on patrol in Fallujah, Iraq, and has become the unofficial symbol for fallen heroes.

Sen. Rezin emphasized the power of the flag as a symbol of sacrifice made by the men and women of the armed forces, and its importance to gold star families.

The bill will now be considered by the Illinois House of Representatives.
