CHAMPAIGN, IL – Scientists at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will lead a national Artificial Intelligence Research Institute with $8 million in funding from the National Science Foundation.

The Institute, called the Inclusive and Intelligent Technologies for Education (INVITE) Institute, will focus on developing learning technologies that accelerate young people’s achievement in science, technology, engineering, and math.

INVITE will be based in the College of Education at the Urbana campus, with eight faculty members and their teams collaborating on the project across four departments.

The research will investigate emerging AI techniques and build intelligent technologies to broaden engagement with and learning of STEM among historically marginalized groups at the prekindergarten-12th-grade levels.
