La Crosse, WI – An incoming winter storm system is set to bring snow, strong winds, and the coldest air of the season to Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota and Iowa just ahead of Thanksgiving, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) La Crosse.

Rain will begin Monday, transitioning to snow Tuesday night into Wednesday, mainly along and north of Interstate 90. Accumulations are most likely across north-central Wisconsin, where totals could exceed an inch or more. Forecasters warn of blowing snow and reduced visibility overnight Tuesday into Wednesday due to gusts up to 45 mph from the northwest.

Travelers should prepare for hazardous conditions on major routes, particularly I-90 and east-west highways, as wind-driven snow could cause slick roads and drifting.

Behind the storm, an Arctic air mass will settle into the region, driving wind chills into the single digits or near zero by Thursday and Friday mornings. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, check vehicle batteries, and bring pets indoors as temperatures plunge well below normal for late November.

Cold, dry conditions are expected to persist through Thanksgiving weekend.
