Dodge City, KS – A fast-moving line of showers and thunderstorms is sweeping east across southwest Kansas this afternoon, producing frequent lightning but no severe weather, according to the National Weather Service in Dodge City.
As of 1 p.m. Sunday, storms were tracking northeast to east at 40–50 mph, bringing brief downpours and occasional thunder to parts of Liberal, Garden City, and Dodge City. Rainfall totals are expected to remain light, generally between 0.10 and 0.20 inches.
Forecasters noted a considerable amount of lightning within the line, urging residents to move indoors when thunder is heard. The storms are expected to exit the region later this afternoon, leaving behind cooler and breezy conditions.
“No severe weather is expected,” the NWS emphasized, though minor visibility reductions may occur in heavier rain pockets.
The next several days should bring calmer weather before temperatures dip slightly midweek as a weak front crosses the state.
