Pueblo, CO – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Eastern San Juan Mountains beginning late tonight, with fresh mountain snow expected to make travel difficult through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect from 11 PM Wednesday to 11 PM Thursday, targeting elevations above 10,000 feet. Snow totals between 4 and 8 inches are forecast, with Wolf Creek Pass and Cumbres Pass expected to see the greatest impacts.

Forecasters say snow will begin developing shortly before midnight as moisture moves into the higher terrain. Steady accumulation is expected overnight, creating snow-packed and slick roads for early travelers.

According to the NWS, the most hazardous conditions will impact Thursday morning and afternoon as persistent light-to-moderate snowfall continues. Drivers crossing Wolf Creek Pass should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, low visibility, and icy stretches—especially on shaded or wind-exposed areas.

Temperatures will remain cold enough throughout the day for snow to accumulate on untreated roads, making traction difficult for commuters and commercial traffic traveling across the Continental Divide. Snowfall is expected to gradually taper off by late Thursday evening as the system exits the region.

Travelers are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and use caution when navigating mountain passes. Updated road information can be obtained through Colorado 511.
