State College, PA – Lake-effect snow is expected to increase across north-central Pennsylvania today, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Potter and Cameron counties through early Monday afternoon. Forecasters warn that gusty winds and fast-forming snow bands may lead to hazardous driving conditions, especially for Monday commuters.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, the Winter Weather Advisory runs from 10 a.m. Sunday to 1 p.m. Monday for Coudersport, Emporium, and surrounding rural communities.
Forecasters expect 2 to 4 inches of snow, with the potential for drifting due to wind gusts up to 45 mph. The combination of falling and blowing snow may create sudden visibility drops on open stretches and ridge tops.
According to the NWS, roads will likely become slippery, and the hazardous conditions could significantly impact the Monday morning commute. Strong winds may also bring down small tree branches and cause already-cleared roadways to become quickly snow-covered again.
Lake-effect snow bands are expected to shift through the region today and tonight, creating sharp differences in visibility and accumulation over short distances. Some travelers may encounter heavy bursts of snow while areas a few miles away remain mostly dry.
Drivers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, allow extra travel time, and use caution on rural roads, especially in areas exposed to strong crosswinds.
