JACKSONVILLE, FL – Crisp air sweeps across north Florida this Veterans Day morning, with breath visible in the pre-dawn chill and wind biting harder than usual along the St. Johns River. The region awakens to the season’s first significant cold snap, and for many inland neighborhoods, this is the coldest start since March.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through 8 a.m. today, with wind chills dipping as low as 20 degrees across Duval, Clay, and St. Johns Counties. A Frost Advisory will follow late tonight through early Wednesday as lighter winds allow temperatures to settle near freezing in low-lying inland areas. Sensitive plants and pipes should be protected, and residents are urged to check on elderly neighbors, pets, and space heaters before leaving home.

Today will stay brisk but sunny, with highs near 53 degrees — perfect for Veterans Day observances, though breezes will make it feel colder at times. By Wednesday, the chill eases sharply. Afternoon highs jump back into the upper 60s, then into the lower 70s by Thursday and Friday as high pressure builds along the Gulf Coast.

Looking ahead, this early taste of winter will give way to a stretch of pleasant, dry fall weather ideal for outdoor events and early holiday prep. However, forecasters hint at another cool-down late next week — possibly a Thanksgiving “reality check” for much of north Florida.
