HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A biting chill grips North Alabama this morning as icy winds sweep through the Tennessee Valley, leaving a crisp glitter across rooftops and fields. The state’s first Hard Freeze Warning of the season is underway, with temperatures plunging into the teens and 20s — a stark reminder that winter is closer than it feels under today’s blue skies.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the Freeze Warning remains in effect from 10 p.m. tonight through 10 a.m. Monday for Lauderdale, Madison, Morgan, Limestone, Colbert, and surrounding counties. Lows may drop as far as 14°F in sheltered valleys, with frost and freeze conditions expected to damage sensitive vegetation and unprotected plumbing.

Residents are urged to take precautions now — cover outdoor faucets, wrap exposed pipes, and bring in pets. Farmers should protect remaining crops as subfreezing air could bring a permanent end to the growing season. Winds from the northwest at 20 to 25 mph this morning will ease through the day, allowing clear skies and rapid cooling after sunset.

Monday stays cold, with highs near 40 degrees and widespread frost returning Monday night. By Veterans Day, the chill finally breaks as sunshine and a south breeze push highs into the low 50s — ideal weather for parades and outdoor ceremonies. Midweek brings a full rebound, with temperatures soaring into the mid-60s under sunny skies, marking a short-lived return to fall comfort before the next cold front approaches late next weekend.
