SHREVEPORT, La. – A strong surge of Arctic air will bring the first hard freeze of the fall season to the ArkLaTex region Sunday night into Monday morning, with temperatures plunging into the low 20s across much of northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and eastern Texas.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday for areas including Shreveport, Monroe, Natchitoches, Ruston, Longview, Tyler, Texarkana, and El Dorado. Forecasters expect widespread lows between 23°F and 27°F, marking the end of the 2025 growing season.

Residents are urged to wrap exposed pipes, drain irrigation systems, and bring pets and plants indoors. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development warns drivers to be cautious of icy bridges and overpasses during the Monday morning commute along I-20, U.S. 79, and U.S. 171.

Clear skies and calm winds overnight will allow rapid temperature drops, especially in rural and low-lying areas. Sunshine returns Monday afternoon, but highs will only reach the mid-40s to near 50. A gradual warming trend is expected midweek, though chilly mornings will continue through Wednesday.
