Montgomery, AL – The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued dual weather alerts for Central and Eastern Alabama, warning of dense fog this morning followed by a freeze watch beginning late Sunday night.
A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. CST Saturday for counties including Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Macon, Lee, Bullock, and Russell. Visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less, particularly along I-65, I-85, and U.S. Highway 80.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and maintain safe distances, as travel may be hazardous in rural and low-lying areas.
Following the fog, a Freeze Watch goes into effect late Sunday night through Monday morning, with temperatures expected to fall near 31°F. The cold may kill sensitive plants and damage outdoor plumbing if not properly protected.
This marks the first widespread freeze event of the season for the region, signaling an early shift toward winter conditions.
