BRADLEY, Ill. — Party City’s Bradley store, located at 2060 N. Illinois Route 50 in Bradley Commons, will be closing as part of the company’s plan to shut down 22 stores across the country due to bankruptcy. The Bradley store is the only location in Illinois affected by the closures, announced in late February, but an exact date of the closure was not announced.

The Bradley Commons complex, anchored by Kohl’s department store and Walmart, will lose its Party City store as a result of the bankruptcy filing. Party City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January and plans to auction off 12 stores in six states. It is also possible that more locations will close in the future, including 10 stores that have already been announced.

Party City relocated to the former home of the Gap clothing store in Bradley Commons in June 2018 from its previous location in Bourbonnais. The company has been struggling due to the pandemic, experiencing slow sales during lockdowns, supply-chain disruptions, and a shortage of helium affecting inventory levels.

In recent years, many people have started turning to online retailers like Amazon to purchase party materials. While the closure of Party City’s Bradley store may be disappointing for some, those who prefer online shopping for their party materials will likely not be affected.

Other party supply retailers remaining in Kankakee County include Michaels, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Target, and Walmart.
