Benson County, ND – A juvenile driver suffered serious injuries Sunday evening after a two-vehicle crash on North Dakota Highway 19, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 5:07 p.m. near mile marker 123, approximately nine miles northeast of Maddock. Troopers said a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban was leaving a residential driveway on the south side of ND-19 and turning west when it was struck by an eastbound 2006 Peterbilt truck with a flatbed trailer.
According to investigators, the Suburban failed to yield and was hit by the truck, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway. The Suburban came to rest in the south ditch, while the Peterbilt stopped in the north ditch.
The juvenile driver of the Suburban was transported to Sanford Bismarck Medical Center with serious injuries. The 23-year-old truck driver from Belvidere, South Dakota, was not injured.
Seatbelts were worn by the juvenile, but not by the truck driver, according to authorities. The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, with assistance from Maddock Fire & Rescue and local ambulance services.
