Pendleton, OR – A frosty start to the weekend will give way to rain and gusty winds across Eastern Oregon by Sunday, ending a brief stretch of fall sunshine.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, widespread frost is expected early Friday and Saturday with temperatures dipping into the low 30s. Patchy frost could affect morning drivers along I-84 and rural highways in Umatilla County. Outdoor plants and gardens should be protected before sunrise both mornings.

Saturday remains dry and mostly sunny with a high near 67°F—ideal for farmers markets, fall festivals, and outdoor chores. But rain will push in late Saturday night with a 50% chance of showers after 11 p.m. Sunday brings an 80% chance of rain, possibly heavy at times, with cooler highs near 60°F.

Winds will pick up by Friday afternoon, gusting as high as 33 mph in open areas and foothills. Expect breezy conditions to continue through Saturday evening ahead of the system.

While no major flooding or storm alerts are posted, early-season rain could reduce visibility and dampen weekend plans, especially on I-84, Highway 11, and rural routes across the Blue Mountains.

Conditions improve Monday with sunshine and highs in the low 60s. Another dry stretch is likely through midweek.
