Wyoming High Wind Watch Issued: Strong Gusts May Impact I-80, I-25

Cheyenne, WY – A High Wind Watch has been issued for parts of southeast Wyoming from late Thursday night through Friday afternoon, with gusts potentially reaching 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.

The alert covers wind-prone corridors including Interstate 80 near Arlington and the Summit and Interstate 25 near Bordeaux, as well as areas in East Platte County and the South Laramie Range Foothills.

According to forecasters, west winds between 25 and 35 mph are expected, with stronger gusts possible. The most significant impacts are expected for lightweight or high-profile vehicles, such as campers and tractor trailers, which may face dangerous crosswinds.

The watch is in effect from late Thursday night (October 16) through Friday afternoon (October 17). Travelers are encouraged to check updated road conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind periods.

The NWS advises residents to secure outdoor objects and remain alert for possible upgrades to a High Wind Warning as conditions evolve.
