New York, NY – Strong northeast winds are battering the New York metropolitan area, Long Island, southern Connecticut, and Cape Cod today, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. EDT for New York City, northeast New Jersey, and southern Connecticut, while Barnstable County, Massachusetts (including Falmouth, Chatham, and Provincetown) remains under advisory until 8 p.m.

Forecasters report sustained winds between 20 and 30 mph, with occasional gusts strong enough to down tree limbs and power lines, causing scattered outages across parts of the region. The strongest gusts are expected near Long Island’s South Shore, eastern Suffolk County, and Cape Cod’s exposed coastlines.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture and decorations and to use extra caution while driving—especially in high-profile vehicles.
