KANKAKEE – Be prepared for another round of vote-by-mail postcards arriving to mailboxes across the area soon.

The second round of postcards is part of a new voting option law put into place in June 2021.  Postcards are set to arrive via local county clerks offices in the coming weeks.  Postcards include an option to be permanently placed on this list.

Those opting to be included in permanent vote by mail status will receive a ballot in the mail 40 days in advance of any election.

As part of the new law, County Clerks across Illinois are required by law to send the letter applications out to every voter before every Consolidated and General Election.

“There is the convenience of early voting from home. In some of the larger polling places, it relieves the pressure of long lines at the end of election day,” Kankakee County Clerk Dan Hendrickson said. “In general, (voters) have the benefit of sitting at home, researching the candidates and taking their time to fill out a ballot. If you want to vote by mail, you don’t have to remember to request the ballot.”

Ballots will be sent out by February 23rd for voters signed up to the list.
