Dodge City, KS – After a brief taste of fall, southwest Kansas is set to heat back up this week. The National Weather Service in Dodge City reports that a strong warming trend will bring unseasonably warm, summerlike temperatures back to the region by Friday and Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, afternoon highs are expected to reach the mid- to upper-80s across much of southwest Kansas, with some areas approaching 90 degrees. Cities including Dodge City, Garden City, and Liberal could all see temperatures around 87 to 89 degrees Saturday afternoon.

Forecasters say the warming trend will be accompanied by strong south winds, which are expected to increase Saturday afternoon. Gusts could reach up to 45 mph, creating breezy and potentially hazardous travel conditions for high-profile vehicles.

The unseasonable warmth follows a stretch of cooler early October weather that brought more typical fall temperatures to the area. Meteorologists note that the above-normal heat will likely persist through the weekend before a potential cooldown early next week.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, secure loose outdoor items, and exercise caution on the roads during gusty conditions.
