PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A stretch of unseasonably warm fall weather will carry Pittsburgh into early next week, with daytime highs soaring into the low 80s and patchy morning fog creating localized travel hazards.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, Friday through Monday will feature mostly sunny skies, calm winds, and highs between 79 and 83 degrees. Patchy fog is expected overnight and during early morning hours Saturday and Sunday, especially in river valleys and low-lying areas. Drivers on I-79, I-376, and Route 28 should use caution during morning commutes as visibility may be reduced.
The warmth holds through Monday before the weather pattern shifts. By Tuesday, a weak cold front will bring a 50 percent chance of showers during the day, followed by a stronger round of widespread rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. NWS forecasters expect Wednesday to be the wettest day, with an 80 percent chance of rain and cooler highs near 68. Conditions will dry out again by Thursday.
Officials urge residents to take advantage of the warm spell this weekend for outdoor activities but to stay alert for sudden fog on backroads. With cooler nights ahead, fall safety steps such as checking furnaces, insulating outdoor faucets, and keeping pets indoors overnight are also advised.
