GILMAN – Local law enforcement agencies are on the hunt for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a girl on an Amtrak train Wednesday.
According to the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office, it happened around 11 a.m. when officers were called to the Gilman train station for reports of a sexual assault of the juvenile victim.
The suspect has been identified as Joel T Smith, 33 of Michigan who was last seen running east of K and H Truck Plaza. The Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office, Kankakee Sheriff’s Office and Bradley Police and multiple other agencies conducted a search of the area for Smith who managed to avoid law enforcement.
Smith can easily be identified by a tattoo on his neck. Police report Smith is considered dangerous and you should call 9-1-1 if he’s seen.
