Salt Lake City, UT – Northern Utah residents should brace for a dramatic shift in weather this weekend as a strong cold front moves across the region. Forecasters say the system will bring widespread rainfall, mountain snow above 9,000 feet, and freezing overnight temperatures in higher valleys such as the Wasatch Back.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the front will arrive between Friday evening and Saturday morning, with the heaviest precipitation expected along and behind it. Rainfall amounts could be significant across northern Utah, while mountain areas may see light accumulations of snow.

Forecasters warn that freezing conditions are likely Sunday and Monday mornings in high-elevation valleys, which could impact sensitive plants and outdoor activities. Residents are urged to cover vegetation ahead of the freeze and prepare for winter-like conditions if traveling into the mountains.

The early-season storm marks a sharp change from the mild fall weather earlier this week. Commuters, hikers, and campers should anticipate slippery mountain conditions and colder-than-usual mornings.

This weather shift serves as a reminder of the fast-changing nature of fall in Utah, with temperatures dropping quickly once cold fronts pass through the region.
