Glasgow, MT – Residents in northeast Montana should brace for a shift Monday as thunderstorms, gusty winds, and smoky skies threaten to disrupt travel and outdoor plans. Drivers along U.S. Highway 2 may face reduced visibility Sunday afternoon and again late Monday as storms roll into the region.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops Monday morning, with winds gusting up to 29 mph. Sunday will also bring lingering wildfire smoke after 2 p.m., with air quality concerns possible across Valley County and surrounding areas. Health officials recommend limiting outdoor activity if smoke thickens.

Saturday stays calm with sunshine and highs near 84, but the transition begins late Sunday when east winds shift westward, spreading haze into the evening. Overnight lows will hover in the low 50s, keeping conditions relatively mild but breezy.

By Monday, west winds will strengthen, with gusts reaching 29 mph and locally stronger near storm cells. The weather pattern could affect crop harvesting, travel, and outdoor work. Residents should secure loose property, charge devices, and prepare for potential power flickers if storms intensify.

Conditions improve quickly, with sunny skies returning Tuesday and lasting through midweek. Highs will hover in the upper 70s to mid-80s, making for more typical early fall weather across northeastern Montana.

Warnings remain possible through Monday, and residents should check for updates before traveling.
