Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles should prepare for possible severe weather this afternoon and evening. Forecasters warn that storms could bring hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region during the late afternoon hours. While the overall chance of severe weather is low, any storms that intensify could produce hail up to the size of quarters, wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour, and brief downpours. The risk for tornadoes is considered very low.

The most likely window for storms will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in central portions of the Panhandle, with activity shifting eastward into the evening. Areas in the western Panhandle may see storms develop later, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Thunderstorms may linger beyond midnight, though the severe threat is expected to diminish overnight. Officials urge residents to keep multiple ways of receiving weather alerts, especially as conditions can change quickly.

The National Weather Service advises travelers and those attending outdoor events to monitor forecasts closely and be prepared to seek shelter if warnings are issued.
