Columbia, S.C. – Drivers across central South Carolina could encounter dangerous patchy fog early Saturday, reducing visibility on I-26 and local roadways. Conditions may worsen around sunrise, slowing traffic and creating hazards for morning commuters.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, fog should lift by midmorning, but scattered thunderstorms could develop after 2 p.m. Saturday. While the storm risk remains low, heavy downpours may briefly flood streets in Richland and Lexington counties. Motorists are urged to use headlights in fog and allow extra travel time through afternoon showers.

Saturday night will clear out, with lows near 65 degrees. Sunday looks dry and bright, bringing highs near 89 under calm skies. Temperatures will climb again Monday, reaching 89 with mostly sunny conditions, before peaking at 92 on Tuesday. The stretch of warm, dry weather will help dry out saturated ground, but it also increases heat stress for outdoor workers and athletes.

By midweek, changes return. A 30 percent chance of showers Wednesday night could interrupt evening plans, and storm chances grow stronger Thursday into Friday. Residents should prepare for possible downpours and keep alternate indoor activities in mind.

While early fall usually signals cooler weather, Columbia’s September stretch will feel more like midsummer. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity in peak afternoon heat, and keep an eye on storm alerts later in the week.

Warnings and advisories may be updated as conditions evolve, especially with storms possible late next week.
