Mt. Vernon, IL – A 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old juvenile were arrested in Jefferson County this week in connection with a residential burglary and separate traffic-related offenses.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Mt. Vernon Police encountered Brian E. Needy, 19, and a 15-year-old male Tuesday evening in the 2700 block of Logan Street. Needy was taken into custody for alleged residential burglary, while the juvenile was wanted on a Department of Children and Family Services warrant.
Investigators say both arrests are linked to a burglary earlier that day at a home in the 21000 block of North George Lane in Dix, Illinois. The juvenile was also charged with possession of a stolen firearm tied to the same case.
In addition, the juvenile faces multiple traffic charges connected to a September 13 crash at East Liberty Road and North Dartmouth Lane. Authorities say the incident left five other juveniles injured, some seriously. The teen allegedly fled the scene and was cited for aggravated reckless driving, speeding, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and driving without a valid license.
Both suspects were transported to detention facilities. Needy is being held at the Jefferson County Jail pending a pretrial hearing, while the juvenile was sent to a Winnebago County detention center.
Officials emphasized that both individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court
