Rockford, IL – A Rockford man was arrested late Saturday night after police responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the city’s south side.

According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Kishwaukee Street on September 13, 2025, following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they encountered multiple individuals in a backyard and recovered a firearm. One of those individuals, later identified as Heriberto Quintero, 49, of Rockford, was taken into custody.

After reviewing the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized several charges against Quintero. He was lodged in the county jail and faces charges of reckless discharge, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card, and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID.

Police emphasized that the charges are accusations, and Quintero is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
