Seattle, WA – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the Cascades and Cascade Foothills on Tuesday as dry and windy conditions raise the risk of wildfires.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Seattle, the alert means that critical fire weather conditions are possible, though not yet certain. The agency said warm temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds could combine to create “critical fire conditions” in the area.
The Fire Weather Watch serves as a heads-up for residents, campers, and travelers to prepare for rapidly changing conditions. If weather patterns worsen, the watch could be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning, which indicates that hazardous fire weather is happening or imminent.
The Weather Service urged people to avoid outdoor burning, be cautious around open flames, and properly dispose of smoking materials. Even a small spark could ignite a wildfire under these conditions.
Residents of King, Snohomish, and surrounding counties are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely and review fire safety plans ahead of Tuesday.
