EUREKA, Calif. – Morning commuters along U.S. Highway 101 should brace for reduced visibility as patchy fog lingers across Humboldt County early Tuesday. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low beams, and allow extra travel time before skies clear by midmorning.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, patchy fog is expected to develop after midnight and persist until around 8 a.m. Tuesday. Calm conditions overnight could allow thicker pockets of fog in low-lying valleys, creating travel hazards on rural routes and coastal highways. Once the fog lifts, sunshine dominates the afternoon with a high near 69 degrees.

Tuesday night brings more patchy fog and cooler air, with lows dipping to 55 degrees. Light winds will shift from the northwest through midweek, keeping coastal conditions mild but reinforcing chilly nights inland. By Wednesday, skies remain mostly sunny, though patchy morning fog may again slow travel.

Thursday and Friday bring the first hint of seasonal change. Clouds increase, with the National Weather Service noting a slight chance of rain by Friday evening. Humboldt Bay communities could see slick roads if showers develop, marking the area’s first touch of early fall weather.

Residents should plan for fog delays through midweek, prepare for changing road conditions, and check updates from local authorities before heading out. More advisories may be issued if rain chances strengthen later in the week.
