La Crosse, Wis. – A stretch of late-summer heat will build across western Wisconsin this weekend, but not before a round of thunderstorms Friday night that could disrupt outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, storms may develop after sunset Friday with a 30 percent chance of rain and thunder, especially before 1 a.m. Southeast winds up to 7 mph could accompany the system. Conditions are expected to clear quickly, setting up a run of mostly sunny skies from Saturday through Monday.

Daytime highs will climb from the mid-80s Friday to near 89 degrees by Sunday, creating summer-like warmth for mid-September. Overnight lows will stay mild, generally in the 60s, providing limited relief for those without air conditioning. The La Crosse Regional Airport and surrounding areas along Interstate 90 will see increased heat exposure for drivers and construction crews.

Looking ahead, storm chances return Tuesday and Wednesday with scattered showers possible both days. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and prepare for changing conditions with the midweek rain threat.

Warnings are not currently in effect, but additional advisories may be issued if storms become more widespread.
