Kansas City, MO – Above-normal temperatures are set to build across Missouri and Kansas this week, with the hottest conditions arriving Friday and Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, temperatures could climb as much as 15 degrees above normal, with highs ranging from the upper 90s to near 100 in several locations. The heat is expected to peak Friday through Sunday before easing as storm chances return.

The best chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Sunday evening into Monday morning, forecasters said. Additional isolated afternoon storms are possible Monday through Wednesday.

Cities across the region—including Kansas City, St. Joseph, Chillicothe, and Warrensburg—are forecast to see highs between 94 and 98 degrees through the weekend. Normal highs for this period typically sit around the low 80s, making this stretch of weather unseasonably hot.

Forecasters urge residents to take precautions during outdoor activities, especially during peak afternoon hours when heat stress is most likely. Hydration, frequent breaks, and checking on vulnerable neighbors are recommended.

Cooler air is expected to gradually return by the middle of next week as rain chances persist.
