MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Summer is making a late return to Minnesota with highs surging into the 80s across the state through the weekend. The Twin Cities could see 85 degrees Saturday, one of the warmest days left this year, before rain chances return late Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, the state will dry out after midweek showers, with sunshine dominating Thursday through Saturday. Temperatures will rise well above the seasonal norm of 75 degrees, peaking in the low to mid-80s Friday and Saturday.

Communities from Rochester to St. Cloud will share in the warmth, while Duluth is expected to stay cooler in the upper 70s. Road crews and outdoor event organizers are taking advantage of the dry spell before storms move back in by Sunday afternoon, when scattered thunderstorms could disrupt travel on I-35 and local festivals.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and use caution during outdoor activities, as the late-season heat may feel more intense after recent cooler stretches. Those with Sunday plans should keep an eye on radar updates and have a backup indoors in case storms develop.

The National Weather Service says warm, dry conditions will last through Saturday, with rain and thunderstorm chances spreading across southern Minnesota by late Sunday. More seasonal temperatures are likely early next week.
