Flagstaff, Ariz. – Strong winds will sweep across much of northern Arizona on Wednesday, with gusts expected to reach 45 mph and create hazardous travel conditions from the Grand Canyon to the Mogollon Rim.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, the wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, covering Kaibab Plateau, Grand Canyon Country, Coconino Plateau, Yavapai County Mountains, Little Colorado River Valley, Black Mesa, and the Mogollon Rim. Sustained south to southwest winds will blow between 15 and 25 mph, with higher gusts likely on open roads and elevated terrain.

Drivers on Interstate 40 near Flagstaff, Winslow, and Holbrook should expect crosswinds, particularly difficult for tractor trailers, RVs, and other high-profile vehicles. Power outages are possible as tree limbs snap in stronger gusts, and residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, trash bins, and other loose items before the winds strengthen.

Communities including Prescott, Williams, Tuba City, Snowflake, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon are all under the advisory. Officials recommend delaying travel with light trailers or campers until winds ease Wednesday night.

The wind advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. Wednesday, with calmer conditions expected to return by late evening.
