Pueblo, Colo. – Drivers along the I-25 corridor could face hazardous travel Tuesday afternoon as scattered thunderstorms develop over Colorado’s mountains and move east into the valleys and plains. Strong wind gusts up to 40 mph, lightning, and locally heavy rain are the main threats.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms are expected to form around 1 p.m. over the higher terrain before reaching I-25 communities such as Colorado Springs and Pueblo by roughly 4 p.m. While storms will weaken as they push east toward the plains, wind gusts could still impact travel and outdoor activities well into the evening.
Mountain towns including Salida and Westcliffe may see stronger storm development earlier in the day, while urban areas along I-25 face the greatest risk during the afternoon commute. The combination of gusty winds and reduced visibility could make driving hazardous on stretches of I-25 and U.S. Highway 50. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid exposed areas during lightning, and plan for sudden downpours.
Thunderstorm chances will diminish after sunset, but more unsettled weather could return later in the week.
