Reno, NV – A Dense Smoke Advisory has been issued for Mono, Mineral, and southern Lyon counties, lasting until 11 a.m. Tuesday, as smoke from the Garnet Fire spreads across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Reno, the advisory warns of visibility reductions to one mile or less in affected areas, particularly along U.S. Highway 395 in Mono County. Officials said the smoke transport is expected to significantly impact travel and outdoor conditions through Tuesday morning.

The NWS cautioned residents to prepare for hazardous driving conditions due to the heavy smoke. Poor air quality is also a concern, with potential health impacts including difficulty breathing and heightened risks for those sensitive to smoke exposure. People are advised to limit time outdoors, avoid strenuous activity, and use air filtration if possible.

The agency reported the risk level at 4 out of 5, considered major, as smoke is expected to linger overnight. Smoke-sensitive groups such as children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions are encouraged to take extra precautions.

Drivers are urged to use caution in areas of low visibility, slow down on highways, and keep headlights on when traveling through smoke. Residents should monitor local updates and follow public health guidance until conditions improve.

This advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday, with updates to be provided by the National Weather Service Reno.
