Green Bay, Wis. – A chill is settling over northern and central Wisconsin, with overnight lows expected to dip into the mid-30s and bring widespread frost by early Monday morning. Gardeners and farmers across the region are being urged to protect sensitive vegetation before temperatures drop.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a frost advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. until 8 a.m. Monday for areas including Wausau, Rhinelander, Shawano, Antigo, Merrill, and much of Marinette and Oconto counties. Even sheltered valleys could see heavier frost development as skies clear and winds calm overnight.

The advisory covers a wide swath of central, north-central, and northeast Wisconsin, stretching from Vilas and Oneida counties down through Shawano and Marathon counties. Residents should cover outdoor plants, move potted flowers inside, and prepare gardens for potentially damaging cold.

Those traveling early Monday should also be aware of reduced visibility in rural areas where frost could form on windshields. While this is not the first cool snap of September, it marks one of the season’s earliest frost events across the Northwoods.

The frost advisory expires at 8 a.m. Monday, but cooler nights are expected to continue through midweek, with more advisories possible if skies remain clear.
