MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan residents will see a break from lake-effect showers today as temperatures start a steady climb out of the 50s, setting the stage for a warmer week across the Upper Peninsula.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, light rain tied to northwest winds will taper off Sunday, with drier conditions east of Marquette. A return of rain showers and scattered thunderstorms is expected late Monday evening, carrying into Tuesday. While storms are not forecast to be severe, periods of downpours could reduce visibility on highways including U.S. 41 and M-28.

Daytime highs are projected to reach the mid to upper 60s Monday and Tuesday, with some interior western counties likely touching the low 70s. Overnight lows will remain cool, ranging from the upper 30s tonight to the mid-50s by midweek.

Residents should prepare for wet commutes Tuesday morning and watch for ponding on secondary roads, especially in low-lying areas. The unsettled weather may also disrupt outdoor activities and early-season construction projects.

Conditions are expected to settle again by midweek, with drier skies and highs continuing in the 70s. Additional advisories could be issued if thunderstorm activity strengthens.
