FRESNO, Calif. – A stretch of cooler weather is on the way for Central California as disturbances moving through the Pacific Northwest and Northern California push temperatures down across the San Joaquin Valley. Saturday highs will still touch the lower 90s, but a noticeable drop arrives early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, highs across Fresno, Merced, Madera and Bakersfield will steadily cool into the mid-to-lower 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Some valley spots could see afternoon highs hold near 82 degrees midweek, well below the recent string of 90s.

In Fresno, Monday’s high will settle near 85 before dipping to the low 80s by Wednesday. Bakersfield is expected to follow a similar track, sliding from the upper 80s into the low 80s midweek. Merced and Madera will see the most noticeable change, with readings cooling nearly 10 degrees compared to Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to use the cooler stretch to safely enjoy outdoor activities and reduce energy use before another warming trend arrives late week. By Thursday and Friday, highs are projected to rebound into the upper 80s and flirt with 90 again heading into next weekend.

Temperatures are expected to stay near seasonal averages through much of September, though additional disturbances could briefly cool the valley again.
