Lubbock, Texas – Showers and a few thunderstorms could move across the Texas Panhandle early Sunday, though severe weather is not expected. Cooler air will keep highs across the region in the upper 70s to low 80s, offering a break from recent summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, the greatest chance for rainfall will be across the far southern Panhandle during the morning hours. Clouds and occasional showers could slow warming, with most towns from Plainview to Brownfield peaking in the low 80s by mid-afternoon.

Travelers along U.S. 84 from Lubbock through Littlefield and on toward Muleshoe may see brief wet roads. Showers are also possible in Snyder, Jayton, and Spur before skies begin to clear into the evening. With no severe storms in the outlook, impacts should remain minimal outside of brief downpours and lightning.

Residents are encouraged to use caution if caught in an isolated thunderstorm, especially in open areas or while driving.

Cooler weather will continue into the week, with no immediate return to triple-digit heat. Additional storm chances could develop by midweek as moisture lingers.
