Concord, N.H. – Much of New Hampshire is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8 p.m. Saturday as strong storms track across the state. Residents could face damaging winds, hail, and brief downpours capable of reducing visibility and flooding low-lying roads.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch covers eight counties including Hillsborough, Rockingham, Merrimack, Cheshire, and Sullivan. The greatest risk will be late this afternoon into the early evening, especially along the I-93 and Route 101 corridors where storms may intensify.
Emergency officials warn that scattered power outages are possible if wind gusts topple trees or bring down wires. Drivers in southern cities like Manchester and Nashua may also encounter ponding water during evening travel. Outdoor events across the Lakes Region and Seacoast could see delays or cancellations if lightning develops.
Residents are urged to move indoors when storms approach, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel on flooded roads. Officials remind people never to drive through standing water.
The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday. Additional advisories may be issued if storms continue into the night.
