Corpus Christi, Texas – Scattered thunderstorms will intensify across South Texas today, with the National Weather Service warning of heavy downpours and lightning along the Coastal Plains through Sunday night. Storms will be slow-moving, raising the potential for isolated flooding in low-lying and urban areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, rain chances peak at 80% today and remain elevated through Monday morning. Corpus Christi, Rockport, and Port Lavaca may see rainfall totals over an inch, while isolated pockets could pick up much more. Forecasters also caution that excessive rainfall could cause brief flooding near roadways, especially where drainage is poor.

High temperatures will remain in the 90s inland, with Laredo climbing as high as 102°. On the coast, highs will stay closer to the upper 80s, but extreme humidity will keep heat indices oppressive. Beachgoers should also note an extreme UV index and a low but present rip current risk, particularly near piers and jetties.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads, and residents should keep mobile devices charged in case of lightning-related outages. Rain chances begin to taper off by midweek, though scattered showers may linger into Thursday.
