Raleigh, N.C. – Central North Carolina faces a heightened storm risk Saturday afternoon as strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep through the region, bringing potentially damaging wind gusts that could top 60 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, the greatest threat runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with storms tracking across the Triangle and surrounding counties including Durham, Wake, Chatham, and Alamance. While widespread severe weather is not guaranteed, forecasters warn that even isolated storms may produce winds strong enough to topple trees and cause localized power outages.

Drivers across Interstate 40, U.S. 64, and other major roadways should use caution during the afternoon commute as sudden downpours and gusty winds could create hazardous travel conditions. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge phones and devices ahead of time, and monitor local alerts in case warnings are issued.

Conditions should ease by Saturday night, with quieter weather expected Sunday into Monday. However, unsettled skies and additional shower chances return by midweek.

Warnings may be updated through the weekend as the system develops.
