Springfield, Ill. – Central Illinois residents will enjoy a cool and dry weekend before temperatures jump into the upper 80s and low 90s by midweek. Sunshine dominates the next several days, but the lack of rain is raising concerns about worsening late-season drought conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, highs through Sunday will stay in the low to mid-70s with overnight lows dipping into the 40s. By Monday, temperatures begin climbing into the upper 70s and 80s. A slight chance of showers returns Tuesday, but rainfall totals are expected to be minimal.

Farmers across Sangamon, Macon, and McLean counties may face added stress as soil moisture continues to decline. With no significant rain in sight, crops and lawns could show signs of drought stress by late next week. Residents are urged to conserve water where possible and limit outdoor burning as conditions dry further.

Temperatures should peak near 90 degrees by Wednesday with warm nights in the 60s, extending the dry pattern into the following weekend.

Five Day Forecast for Springfield, Illinois:

  • Sunday: Sunny, high 70–75, low mid-40s
