Springfield, Mo. – Scattered showers will return to much of Missouri on Friday as a cold front sweeps across the state, bringing cooler temperatures and the chance for thunder in southern areas. Drivers and outdoor plans could be affected late Friday into early Saturday as widespread rain chances linger.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, rainfall amounts are expected to remain light, with most locations seeing between a quarter- and half-inch. Localized spots could see closer to one inch. Rain is most likely from Friday morning through late evening, with activity tapering into Saturday morning.

The highest thunder potential lies near the Missouri-Arkansas border, where rumbles of thunder may accompany heavier downpours. Cities including Springfield, Branson, and Joplin can expect rain chances in the 40–60% range through much of Friday. Farther north, areas such as Lebanon and Rolla will see lesser amounts but still some wet conditions during the day.
