Providence, R.I. – Commuters across Rhode Island should brace for foggy roads early Thursday morning, creating dangerous travel conditions along I-95 before sunrise. Low visibility could make the morning drive especially hazardous for drivers in Providence, Warwick, and Cranston.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, patchy fog will linger until 9 a.m. Thursday, followed by a mild afternoon with highs near 77. Conditions turn unsettled Thursday night, when scattered showers move in after midnight. South winds will increase through Friday, gusting near 24 mph by Saturday.

Friday brings warmer air, with sunshine pushing highs to 82. But the weekend turns stormy, as a line of showers and possible thunderstorms develops late Saturday into Sunday. Outdoor events, including fall sports and early football games, could see delays or cancellations. Travelers on Route 146 and Route 6 should expect wet pavement and reduced visibility.

Sunday remains the wettest day, with widespread rain likely through the afternoon. North winds may complicate coastal travel, while localized flooding could slow drivers around Pawtucket and Newport. By Monday, skies clear, ushering in a stretch of calmer fall weather with highs in the low 70s.

Residents should plan for changing conditions, charge electronics, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall. Additional advisories may follow as the weekend storm track sharpens.

Five-Day Forecast for Providence, RI

  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, storms possible late. High 83. Low 59.
