Raleigh, N.C. – North Carolina drivers and weekend planners can expect a big weather swing, moving from summerlike heat to stormy skies by Sunday night. Roads across Wake County, including stretches of I-40 and U.S. 70, will stay dry Thursday and Friday, but conditions may change quickly before the new workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, Thursday will bring sunshine with highs near 87, followed by 91 degrees Friday and a scorching 92 Saturday. Winds remain light, making for pleasant evenings, but by late Sunday a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms could slow traffic and impact outdoor plans across the Triangle.

Raleigh, Durham, and Cary residents should prepare for heavy downpours during Sunday’s evening commute and into the night. Outdoor events, including football games and late-summer festivals, may face weather disruptions. Travelers are urged to monitor updates and avoid flooded intersections, especially near Glenwood Avenue and Capital Boulevard where drainage issues often cause standing water.

Saturday will remain ideal for outdoor plans with highs in the lower 90s, though rising humidity signals change. By Sunday, highs fall to the upper 70s under thickening clouds. Monday looks drier, but another chance of rain builds Tuesday.

Storm chances highlight the transition toward fall weather, with cooler nights gradually taking hold by midweek. Officials recommend charging devices ahead of potential outages and avoiding non-essential travel during peak storms.

Warnings remain possible, and updates will continue through the weekend as the system develops.

Five Day Forecast for Raleigh, N.C.:

  • Thursday: Sunny, high 87, calm winds.
  • Friday: Sunny, high 91, light southwest breeze.
  • Saturday: Sunny, high 92, humid.
  • Sunday: High 78, storms possible after 2 p.m., 40% chance of rain.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, high 77, cooler and drier.
