DETROIT, Mich. – Southeast Michigan will feel an early taste of fall as cooler temperatures settle in today, followed by a windy Friday that could make travel challenging. Highs will only reach the mid-60s across most of the region, with clouds mixing with sun before winds ramp up tomorrow.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, southwest winds Friday will reach 20 to 25 mph, with gusts topping 40 mph in open areas. Drivers along I-94, I-75, and I-96 should expect difficult conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Friday’s highs will climb into the mid-60s to low 70s before dropping quickly into the 40s overnight.

Communities from Ann Arbor to Port Huron will notice the sharp cooldown, and residents across northern Oakland and Macomb counties may see winds strong enough to down small branches. Power outages are not expected to be widespread but could occur in exposed spots.

The weekend brings calmer weather, with partly sunny skies and highs staying in the 60s. Nights will remain chilly, dipping into the 40s, making it one of the coolest weekends since spring. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items before Friday’s wind and plan for cool evenings if attending outdoor events.

More updates are expected from the National Weather Service as wind advisories may be issued Friday morning.
