Pittsburgh, PA – A round of strong to severe thunderstorms could sweep across western Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon, bringing damaging winds and a slim but concerning tornado risk. Storm activity is expected between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., with the highest impacts focused east of I-77 and into the Laurel Highlands.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) remains in place for the region, meaning isolated severe storms are possible. While confidence remains low for widespread severe weather, forecasters warn that even brief, isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

The most likely window for stronger storms begins around midday, especially near cities like Washington, Uniontown, and Indiana, with timing varying from 12–3 p.m. west of Pittsburgh to 6–9 p.m. farther southeast. A cold front will trigger the thunderstorms, and while not all storms will turn severe, damaging wind gusts and localized power outages are possible.

Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Early-day scattered showers may give way to more organized storms by afternoon.

Severe weather watches or warnings may be issued Thursday as conditions evolve.
