Ladysmith, Wisconsin – A sharp drop in temperatures could damage gardens across Rusk County early Thursday as a frost advisory takes effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, temperatures are expected to fall as low as 35°F overnight, creating ideal conditions for patchy frost. The advisory specifically includes Ladysmith and surrounding rural areas where vegetation is most at risk.

Sensitive plants and late-season crops could be harmed or killed if left uncovered. Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover exposed gardens with cloth or plastic sheeting before nightfall.

Although no travel disruptions are expected, homeowners and farmers should remain alert for colder-than-normal conditions and take steps to protect vulnerable outdoor items.

This brief cold snap marks one of the first frost events of the season for western Wisconsin. More widespread advisories are possible in coming days if clear skies and calm winds persist.
