Houston, Texas – Air quality across Houston and surrounding coastal areas could reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups through Wednesday, prompting an Ozone Action Day across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Houston-Galveston, stagnant atmospheric conditions are expected to trap ozone pollution near the ground, raising health concerns from Galveston to Brazoria and inland toward Harris County. The alert is active through Wednesday evening, and air quality is expected to remain poor under mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 90s.
People with asthma, respiratory conditions, or heart issues are advised to limit outdoor activity, especially during the late morning and early evening when ozone concentrations peak. Residents are encouraged to drive less, carpool, or use public transportation to reduce emissions. Outdoor exercise should be scheduled early in the morning or after sunset.
A few isolated storms may develop over coastal counties by late Wednesday, but widespread rain is not expected to provide relief. Warm and muggy overnight lows in the 70s will continue through the week.
More air quality alerts may follow if conditions persist into the weekend. Stay updated via local NWS advisories.
